Team USA and American flag photos from the 2014 Sochi Olympic Closing Ceremony
The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics have officially come to a close. Like the Opening Ceremony, world flags play a major role in honoring each country that competed. Every country flag (including the 5-Ring Olympic Flag) is presented one final time by an athlete from the respective country.
Carrying the American flag in the Olympics is quite the honor for any athlete. This year, Julie Chu from the Team USA Women’s hockey team carried the American flag at the Closing Ceremony in Sochi. Chu was very honored to be a part of the tradition of walking among others carrying their country’s colors.
Team USA ended the Sochi Winter Olympics in fourth place in the medal standings with 28 overall medals, 9 gold, 7 silver and 12 bronze. Russia took first with 33 total medals and 13 gold. Norway was second with 26 total medals, including 11 gold. Canada finished in third place with 25 medals in all, 10 gold.
Where will the next Winter Olympics be held? South Korea is hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics. However, before then the 2016 Summer Olympics will be held in Rio, Brazil.
