Military Wife & Angels Fan Carries Out American Flag Opening Night as flag-bearers celebrate another exciting night in MLB baseball.
On Friday night, April 6th, 2012, at the Angels’ home opener longtime Angel’s fan Jennifer McIntire carried out the American Flag. She was one of the 350 volunteers dressed in red shirts presenting the 150×350- foot American Flag. As she listened to the national anthem play before the Angels hosted the Kansas City Royal, she thought of her recently deployed husband serving in the military.
Before the game the volunteers arrived two-and-a-half hours early to clip together the rented flag that arrived in 14 heavy-duty canvas bags. Each bag concealed one red or white stripe and one bag for the blue and white starred canton. After the flag was assembled the flag bearers were led by Mrs. McIntire onto the outfield.
Everyone had his or her reasons for presenting the Flag on Friday evening. The presentation of the flag has been a part of the Angel’s pregame patriotic ceremony since 2006. Jennifer originally planned on attending the home opener with her two sons, Jack, 8, Dane, 6, and her husband, a military serviceman. However, her husband was deployed on a classified assignment just a few weeks prior to the game. It is important to remember the sacrifices service men and women make to protect this great country and the our favorite national past times.
