A Garbage Man saves an American flag and folds it with excellent precision, in a heroic act of Patriotism that a neighbor caught on video
The city of Sherwood, Oregon has a new hero in town by the name of Jeremy Fischer. But you should know Fischer would much prefer to keep his name out of the news and remain the ‘trash guy’ that does his job. But what Fischer did certainly deserves a little recognition.
While picking up the garbage one day, like Fischer has done for 3 years, a neighbor noticed him go above and beyond the duties of his job. Fischer noticed an American flag lying in the street dirty and wet. The flag had blown off of a neighbor’s flag pole.
The flag on the ground just did not sit right with Fischer, so he scooped it up and make sure it was treated with the respect it deserved. He later commented with, “There’s a lot of sacrifice, a lot of hope, a lot of other stuff that is the American flag. I figured since so many people have died for that, the least I could do was pick it up.”
But Fischer went one step further that simply picking the flag up off the ground – he folded it with military precision, a skill he learned while in the Boy Scouts. He was very humble about the entire situation and would have preferred no recognition at all. But thanks to one neighbor, Fischer received the shout out he deserved.
The American flag is a powerful symbol that deserves the utmost respect. Unfortunately some people may have walked right past the flag and not gave a second thought. That is why Fischer, and others who show the flag the same respect, should be honored for the actions.
Do you know someone who always shows the American flag respect and would save it from such disrespect?
