Former NC State Sen. Bob Shaw dies at 87

Bev Perdue, the Governor of North Carolina, mandated that all North Carolina Flags on state facilities in Guilford County be lowered to half-staff today from dawn to dusk.  The flags are at half-staff in honor of former North Carolina State Sen. Shaw served as the Senator of North Carolina for 18 years.  He was the Guilford County Commissioner before serving in the General Assembly from 1984 until 2002. During his stay in Senate he spent some time as the minority leader and was chairman of the state Republican Party.  Bob was married to former national committeewoman and long-time Guilford County Commissioner, Linda Shaw. The couple owned a well-known Greensboro restaurant, Friendly Road Inn, which closed in 2006.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the Church after the graveside service in New Garden Fiends Cemetery in Greensboro.  “Senator Shaw was a strong leader in the Republican Party and the Conservative movement in North Carolina for many years,” said current state party Vice-Chairman Wayne King.
