National Pumpkin Day – October 26

National Pumpkin Day was celebrated Monday. Over the last few years, pumpkins have been a growing sensation in the United States, with menus adding pumpkin spice themed items.

Pumpkin is usually enjoyed in recipes from cake, pie, pudding, cookies, coffee, smoothies, candy, breads, soups, cheesecake, oatmeal and more.

History of pumpkin

Evidence of the pumpkin was first found between 7000 and 5000 BC when seeds were discovered in Mexico. The word originates from the Greek word pepon which means “large melon”.

In more recent years, colored pumpkins like the white pumpkin have gained popularity in the United States.

While it’s not known who founded National Pumpkin Day, we’d like to observe this holiday with some fun flag themed pumpkin carvings and paintings.
