American flags at half-staff for Connecticut victims honors all those involved in the horrible elementary school tragedy
President Obama announced in an official presidential proclamation on December 14th that all American flags flying at public buildings, military posts, and naval stations shall fly at half-staff until sunset on Tuesday December 18th. This also includes U.S. flags at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad.
As another sign of respect, the school held a candle-light vigil where a few hundred people turned out to mourn the loss of so many lives, most not even given a real chance to experience the world. Funerals begin Monday December 17th, for the first of the 20 littlest victims. The quaint little town of Newtown struggles to put together a new normal for everyone in the wake of such a tragedy.
In a statement made by President Obama, be called for action saying, “What choice do we have? Are we really prepared to say that we’re powerless in the face of such carnage, that the politics are too hard?” He also praised the heroic actions of the school principal and other adults who did not hesitate one second before springing to action to protect their students. The bravery they showed is envious to all.
