The Columbus City Flag

The first Columbus city flag was adopted in 1912, but it has been modified numerous times before settling on the 1976 version (pictured above). The Columbus city flag design features three vertical stripes of yellow, white and red. Inside the center white stripe is where you will find the seal of Columbus. The seal of Columbus is quite busy, but it is also meaningful to the city’s past and present. The eagle, flag and shield represent the United States while the ship at the center is a picture of the Santa Maria. The Santa Maria is the ship that the famous Italian/Spanish explorer Christopher Columbus sailed on when he discovered the America’s. Around the outside of the seal you will find stars and buckeyes (Ohio is known as the buckeye state).
