Helping Veterans Regain Their Independence
Villagers for Veterans is 100% volunteer 501(c)(3) organization founded for the sole purpose of helping severely wounded veterans. They help veterans directly with much-needed funding or additional resources, or by providing grants to other organizations that provide services for veterans. Either way, they are here to help wounded veterans transition into civilian life with as much support as possible.
Sgt. Pam Kelly, 17 year Army veteran was catastrophically injured in 2002 while training for deployment to Iraq. Her back was crushed by a load of supplies when a cable snapped during a sling load operation. She was medically retired in 2006 deemed 100% disabled.
Pam’s current home has few adaptions and cannot be retrofitted due to its size and design. In addition she lives in an industrial area where it is not safe to navigate in her electric wheelchair. Once again she finds herself alone in her home with no-where to go. Why The Villages? Golf cart paths would make it possible for her to get around and be independent again. She would be able to enjoy the Squares go to the movies, visit restaurants and shops. The many lifestyle clubs would giver her the opportunity to live a more fulfilling life. Lastly, she would have the friendship and support of numerous like-minded veterans, veteran organizations and other fellow villagers.
SGT. Pam Kelly’s dream has still yet to be achieved. We hope that you will find it in your heart to help make this amazing dream a reality for her. If you’d like to donate, go to their website www.villagersforveterans.org and follow the instructions.
