  1. Happy Veterans’ Day, Everybody!

As Chairman of the Springfield (Oregon) Jaycees’ “Flags For Patriotism” Program, I’ll do my best to honor ALL living Veterans by posting Almost 90 American Flags all around the Springfield-Glenwood area. Since I’ll be doing it by myself this time around I know that it’s going to be a long day, ESPECIALLY if it rains. But, hey! We’re in Oregon and a little rain never hurt anyone, right?
So, for ALL the Veterans out there, and especially the NAVY Veterans (like me), here’s wishing you all “Fair Winds & Following Seas”!

  2. This Veteran’s Day, I am thinking about a dear friend from North Carolina, who (as he says) “re-upped” three times…First deployment was to Vietnam – his last was Desert Storm. He was a Navy Pilot, and he always called his lovely wife “his bride”. Carl Scarborough is one of the kindest people I’ve ever known – he and his bride helped me through very difficult times when I was raising my daughter on my own – and I was labeled “Disabled” during that time. They both kept my spirits up…they helped me…I helped them…then he lost his lovely bride to cancer a short time after I lost my mother to the same horrible disease. I promised my mom that I’d come “home” so she knew I’d be “safe” – but this Veteran’s Day, Carl is alone. His bride is watching over him, but it was always a special day for them both. Thank You for Your Service, and God Bless all of our Veterans!
