History: Gold Star Banner
The Gold Star banner is as important as the Blue Star flag; however, the representation is a bit different. It was also originally displayed starting in World War I and was used as a symbol to recognize and remember the family member or members that passed away serving their country. Some families display the Blue Star Banner to represent their family member actively serving in the military; however, upon decease, a gold star is added in placement of the blue star. Today, the Gold is displayed by the families of the deceased.
